Law Enforcement Training System

Meggitt Training Systems, Inc. (MTSI) has recently released its new XVT Law Enforcement Training System (XVT) that provides effective training tools to train officers to become safe and competent with the use of firearms.

The one screen XVT configuration includes both Marksmanship and Judgmental modes to provide a multi-tiered training program. During individual Marksmanship Training, the system emulates a range-type training environment that graduates from basic to advanced serials. The judgmental training mode enhances the officer’s understanding of shoot/don’t shoot situations and the corresponding decision making process. The system is capable of supporting the training of multiple officers (up to four) simultaneously, thus allowing them to practice working as a team.

The flexibility, advanced features and authoring tools of the XVT allows the training instructors to continuously adapt training courseware to meet ever changing training needs. Embedded authoring tools are provided for instructor creation of new marksmanship training courses. MTSI also offers an optional Video Authoring Station that supports customer creation of new judgmental scenarios.

The XVT system consists of the following major subsystems, all of which are scaleable (expandable) to provide future growth:

  • Instructor Control Station (ICS)
  • Display Subsystem
  • Simulation Subsystem
  • Hit Detection Subsystem
  • Audio Subsystem
  • Weapon/Device Subsystem
  • Video Authoring Station (Option)
MTSI also offers optional tools that augment the basic XVT training capabilities.  For example, an optional Hostile Fire Simulator Kit (or shootback capability) that is instrumental in teaching officers proper cover and concealment techniques.  Other optional kits include a Flashlight Kit, Night Vision Kit, Lookback Kit, and Live Fire Kit.

The XVT system is one-person portable. It is packaged in a rugged casing that fits into the boot of a standard Police vehicle, is easily carried or rolled into position and set up, and ready for training in less than 15 minutes. Upon completion of training, the system can be easily stored in a closet while not in use. This product configuration is especially useful for those customers who need to maintain a multi-use area that is shared between the training system and other functions. Designed for both portable and fixed site use without any modification, the system is easily transportable between customer sites as needed.

MTSI also offers an optional Live Fire Subsystem that allows customers to train on their XVT system using live fire weapons. This is achieved through the purchase of the XVT Live Fire Subsystem, which includes a screen that integrates directly into the training system and uses the same video software and courseware as used with the MTSI laser-based weapons.

MTSI is the recognised worldwide leader in the development and manufacture of simulated small arms. Their simulated weapons integrate seamlessly into the XVT, easily allowing new weapon types and models to be added to existing system configurations as well as future upgrades. To date, MTSI has produced over 300 different types of weapons and fielded over 35,000 simulation weapons. The most important measure of a small arms training system is its overall accuracy and ability to realistically train for the live event. MTSI systems have successfully passed numerous training transfer tests (simulation versus live fire) performed by their customers. MTSI weapon simulators are designed to replicate the physical, functional, and operational characteristics of the live weapon. This ensures that officers perceive a real weapon during use.
