Fall of Shot Recording System (FOSRS)

The Fall of Shot Recording System (FOSRS) was developed for the Royal New Zealand Navy to allow an operator on the target towing vessel to accurately record, mark and report fall of shot of naval gunfire relative to a target.

The system records the left/right distance of the shot and this data is used together with ship records to analyse the performance of the gunnery system. The system is designed for use from a target-towing vessel, but can also be used from a spotting helicopter.

Key Benefits

  • Replaces manual marking
  • Eliminates reporting inaccuracy
  • Provides a digital record for subsequent analysis
  • Intuitive Windows operation
  • Low cost solution
  • Real-time video is stored digitally on the computer's hard drive
  • Shot/burst lateral displacement calculated at any time during recording
  • Analysis information recorded with captured video
